'Bank Shot'
#10 - CBH
(COMMERCE
BANCORP INC)
"The 10th of my
best of breed retailers is Commerce Bancorp (CBH).
Vernon Hill, the
CEO of CBH, he runs it like a retailer. You know, he got
angry at me for calling his branches 'branches!' They're
'stores.'
His is the only
bank in America to measure their performance on a same-store sales
basis which, frankly, is brilliant!
Now, it's ready
to rock with its earnings. I think this thing will be like a
coiled spring when rates turn. And it should also benefit
bigtime from all those Bank of New York branches that are going to JP
Morgan.
Whenever there's
chaos in the branch network, it's hallelujah time for CBH!
Yeah, because it capitalizes opportunistically on the disruption and
takes market share of all the retailers that I've mentioned on this
show.
Bottom Line: Remember, the
best two guys you need to check out are SBUX for China, and
CBH because it's the only bank that's run like a retailer!"
