'Department of Profit'

#5 -
FD  (FEDERATED DEPT STORE)

"This thing's finally getting the respect it deserves.

FD owns Macy's, Bloomingdales, Lord & Taylor, Filenes, David's Bridal and more.

This thing also has the backing of a real smart guy named Bill Stiritz.  He bought $20 million of the stock - he backed up the truck. I think his 'mon-back is very significant

FD has the opportunity to turn a bunch of middle-of-the-road stores they bought from May into high-end Macy's or Bloomingdales.

Next on my list:  Another department store that could never be mistaken as high-end, even by a blind man.  My next pick is far from luxury."

#6 - SHLD  (SEARS HOLDINGS CORPORATION )

"SHLD is the U.S.'s third largest broadline retailer.

The merger of KMart and Sears became final on March 24, 2005.  I bet they'll be moved over to Sears when KMart is set.

SHLD is a retailer that is more about real estate than it is about retail.  It's also a big turnaround story.

Bottom line!:   If you want traditional, easy-to-understand, high-end retail, you should jump on the FD.  If you want something quirky - something that could make you a little mad money - you should take a look at the SHLD."
