'Homework assignment'
Part II
"Keeping it cool'
Near the end of the UTX call, they start talking about hvac (i.e.,
heating, ventilation and air conditioning). They say that
hvac is
better, that prices are up. And that that segment is showing
double digit growth in the qtr.; 19% actually. And then
you've
got your idea!
Then you go out and you just do a screen for the co.s that do hvac.
If UTX had reported better than expected business for otis, we'd be
looking for an elevator co.
This homework process is universally applicable.
I try to find some hvac, I come up with Goldman Global ().
The
co. Just came public and reports tomorrow. It should be
good. But then I see that they've got this big residential
component. It freaks me out.
UTX does commercial hvac. I don't want none of that
residential junk! The house of pain.
Then, we find another co. This time it's FIX. Their
hvac is
for the commercial, industrial and institutional markets, just like UTX.
Now, you're almost all the way there but, before you buy FIX, you've
got to do more homework. Go through the earnings reports,
read
some analyst research, look the thing up in yahoo! Finance.
Sometimes it doesn't pan out. But what I found with FIX is a
$20 stock, masquerading as a $15 stock. Buy, buy, buy!
The bottom line!: don't do your homework for English class -
do
your homework for Cramer! And try to make some mad
money!"
